Canadian Relations

Károli Canada Centre

History

Courses with Canadian content have been offered since 1996 and the Károli Canada Centre was founded in 2001. A year later, the English Department launched its North-American Specialisation Programme. Courses in Canadian Studies formed one of the four blocks of this programme.

With the introduction of the Bologna system in 2005, Canadian courses became a component of the Literature and Culture Specialisation of the BA English major programme, which English minors can also take. Since 2014, the 50-credit North-American Specialisation module has also been available for BA students. The current two-cycle MA in Teacher Training has two Canadian Studies courses as well.

The centre organises the annual thematic Károli North America Days every November, receives a number of Canadian guests (Embassy representatives, academics, artists) on a regular basis, holds free workshops and consultation sessions for teacher trainees and practicing primary and secondary school teachers, plays an active role in Canada-related talent development and is present at secondary school outreach events upon invitation.
