Károli Gáspár University of the Reformed Church in Hungary turns 30 years old

Between February 24 and October 1, 2023, we will commemorate the 30th anniversary of our institution with conferences in Hungarian and foreign languages, a jubilee brochure, and numerous programmes. During the jubilee commemorative year, we remember not only the past three decades, but also the period before that, the roots of Reformed higher education, the spirit and sense of mission that inspired the institution.

XXIV Law Doctoral Conference

On 27 January 2023 the Doctoral School of Law and Political Sciences of Károli Gáspár University of the Reformed Church in Hungary held a Doctoral Students' Meeting organized by Prof. Dr. Éva Jakab, Professor and Head of the Doctoral School. The meeting was held in the Károlyi-Csekonics Palace. The event began with a plenary presentation by Dr. Gergely Rideg titled: The legal framework, opportunities and dead ends of the use of artificial intelligence for business purposes. Afterwards, doctoral students had the opportunity to present their latest research results. 36 PhD students from the Károli Gáspár University’ Doctoral School attended the conference.

Inauguration of Prof. Dr. László Trócsányi

Prof. Dr. László Trócsányi, Rector of the Károli Gáspár University of the Reformed Church in Hungary was inaugurated on 19 February at 3 p.m. as part of a solemn worship service. The ceremony took place in the church of the Budapest-Budahegyvidék Reformed Parish.

Values Building Toolkit in Social Work Education

The "Values Building Toolkit in Social Work Education" project supported by the Visedgrad Fund has come to an end at Fall 2021. The group who worked together consisted of Hungarian (including KRE's Faculty of Social Studies and Health Sciences' Institute of Social Work and Deaconry), Czech, Slovak and Polish universities that were coordinated by University of Ostrava. During the fruitful cooperation, participants examined the transfer of values between social professions (e.g.: social work, social pedagogy, deaconry/Christian social work) at universities of social work and social pedagogy in the Visegrad countries.

Orientation Week for New Exchange Students (7-11 February)

The Orientation Week for the 2021/22 Spring semester took place on 7-11 February. During these days, new international students took part in a variety of activities organized by the International Office and the Student’s Union. Thanks to the fruitful cooperation of all parties, newcomers could feel at ease and home immediately.

Dr Ágnes Czine to continue as acting rector

Upon the proposal and request of the Synod of the Reformed Church in Hungary, the Senate of Károli Gáspár University at its session on 22 February 2021 endorsed unanimously that vice rector for educational affairs Dr Ágnes Czine shall continue her service as acting rector.

Visit of the Dutch Minister of Justice and Security

Upon the joint invitation of Károli Gáspár University and the Hungarian Ministry of Justice, H.E. Mr. Ferdinand Grapperhaus visited the Synod Hall of the Reformed Church in Hungary on 21 February 2019, and gave a lecture titled „ Judicial Cooperation in the European Union – Shared views and justice in Europe” which was followed by a Q&A.

More than 50 exchange students start their semester at Károli

Károli has welcomed students from 4 continents and 20 countries for the 2018/19 Spring semester. Most of them came for one semester to study within the framework of Erasmus+ Programme and some of them continue their scolarship and full degree programme started earlier.

Orientation Week for the new international students

This semester’s Orientation Week for the newly arrived international students was held on 5-9 February 2018. In the framework of the event, the students had the opportunity to gain basic knowledge about European and Hungarian history and culture. In order to get more familiar with the capital city, a sightseeing tour was also organised for them.

Jane Haining English Language Memorial Competition with the support of Károli

Supported by the National Talent Programme and Károli Gáspár University of the Reformed Church in Hungary, the Reformed Pedagogical Institute organised the annual Jane Haining English Language Memorial Competition at the Vörösmarty Mihály Primary and Secondary School in Budapest on 31 January 2017. The competition pays tribute to Jane Haining the martyr member of the Scottish Mission in Budapest, who was killed in Auschwitz in 1944 because her role in rescuing Jewish women and children.
