Department of Communication and Media Studies

Our BA in Communication and Media Studies program was accredited in June 2000. The program, building on the most up to date scientific results, provides a new kind of professionalism and such sets of skills, transmits such an approach and psyco-social techniques, that suit the selected area of specialization the most. That is why field practice is part of the program from the second semester onwards.

Students can choose from the following four specializations:

•    Journalism (Press, Radio, Television, Online),
•    Organizational Communication,
•    PR and Marketing,
•    International Communication.

Surveys made in recent years demonstrates that our students can find a job in their professional field. Our students gain useful, practical knowledge, thus are welcome by employers. The best graduation thesis prize announced by the Hungarian PR Association was awarded to one of our students. Beyond procviding practical skills our aim is to facilitate that our students become capable of analysing, understanding and teaching communication phenomena, processes, their organisational and socio-cultural backgrounds, and also to develop other people’s communication skills. It is also of the same importance that they become capable of scientifically approaching communication problems. The program is supported by a new radio and TV studio opened in 2007 where students can learn all the tricks of program-making, from the editorial and technical sides as well – from the first shots through cutting to submitting the final version.

The aim of the programme is to train communications experts who are familiar with communication systems operating in the society, social communication and the most important institutions in the field of communication and the media. Relying on their expertise, these experts are able to perform communication-related work in basic-level social communication institutions. Graduates have the necessary theoretical knowledge for continuing their studies at the MA-level.
