The objective of the College of Excellence is to function as a special centre providing outstanding talent management opportunities for full-time students enrolled in BA, MA and/or post-graduate programmes at Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of Károli Gáspár University of the Reformed Church in Hungary.
In line with Christian – and more specifically Protestant – values and perspectives, the College of Excellence strives to educate learned and well-prepared professionals with modern erudition and wishes to do so for the benefit of Hungarian society. Such experts are envisaged to join Hungarian and international academic and scientific life, and – through doctoral studies – will contribute to the work pursued by future generations of professionals in Hungarian scientific, academic and higher education institutions.
Through its operation, Benda Kálmán College of Excellence in Humanities and Social Sciences establishes an identity and fosters a perspective that uniquely characterise colleges belonging to the Reformed Church, with traditions and a history dating back to several centuries ago. The College intends to provide talent nurturing activities that enhance both students’ personality and the College’s entire community. The College’s goal is to educate and develop students who view education and research as a social service. Student members of the College are provided not only with expert professional knowledge but will also be devoted to human cultures and will respect European Christian values. This expertise will enable and empower them, in the spirit of tolerance and Ecumenism, to become integrative members of their own communities. The College deems its forerunners the French “grandes écoles” and Hungarian schools with the most successful traditions in the field.

An important goal of the College of Excellence is to coordinate the work of the individual workshops and to investigate the topics examined in the scope of multi- and transdisciplinary approaches thereby paving the way for launching joint courses. The College of Excellence’s intention is to provide students with insights into research carried out by the research groups at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of Károli Gáspár University of the Reformed Church in Hungary and to potentially involve the College’s students in such activities.
