On 23rd June, His Excellency Francois Lafreniere, Ambassador of Canada to Hungary, Slovenia and Bosnia, visited our University for the first time since the beginning of his mandate. During his visit to the Károlyi-Csekonics Palace, Ambassador Lafreniere was first received by Rector László Trócsányi, Judit Nagy, Vice-Dean of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Coordinator of the Károli Canada Centre, and Gábor Szalai, Head of the International Relations Office. During the meeting, among other things, the extension of Canadian Studies to the Faculty of Law was discussed.
During the visit, Ambassador Lafreniere also discussed the possibilities for further fruitful cooperation between the Canadian Embassy and the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences with Dean Mózes Csoma, Judit Nagy, Vice-Dean for International Affairs and Miklós Péti, Head of the Insititute of English Studies. Since its establishment in 2001, the Canada Centre of Károli Gáspár University has been a committed facilitator of research and teaching in Canadian Studies. The Canadian Studies Research Group at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences was established in 2006.
Since 2006, our students have been able to take Canada-related courses (history, geography, culture, literature, film, theatre) as part of the North American Specialisation Programme, and in 2009 the first course on Canada was launched as part of the Master's programme in English Studies. Since 2006 the Faculty has regularly organised Canada Studies conferences as part of its North American Days series.
The Canadian Embassy has been instrumental in supporting all endeavours of both the Canada Centre and the Canadian Studies Research Group.
