Election of new Vice-Rectors

The Senate of Károli Gáspár University of the Reformed Church in Hungary elected the new Vice-Rectors of the University at its meeting on 24 February 2022. The brief introductions of the Vice-Rectors can be found below.

 

The Senate supported the appointment of Prof. Dr. Péter Balla as Vice-Rector for Religion and Spirituality. Prof. Dr. Péter Balla is Professor, Head of the New Testament Department of the Faculty of Theology and Head of the Doctoral School of Theology.

He graduated as a pastor at the Budapesti Református Teológiai Akadémia, the legal predecessor of our university, and then spent years of church service, studied abroad in Great Britain and received his doctorate (Ph.D.) from the Faculty of Theology at the University of Edinburgh.

From October 1994 he was a lecturer of the New Testament Department of the Faculty of Theology, from 1996 he was the Head of the Department, and after the completion of the habilitation procedure he became the professor and Head of Department from 2002. Between 2002 and 2006, he was Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Theology for four academic years.

From May 1, 2009, he served the Károli Gáspár University of the Reformed Church in Hungary as Vice-Rector, and as Rector from 1 September 2011 to 31 August 2019. In addition to the teaching duties, from October 1, 2021, he also held the position of Vice-Rector for Religion and Spirituality, Science and International Affairs in our institution. In 2019, he received the Pro Universitate Award.

 

 

The Senate supported the appointment of Dr. habil. Róbert Szuchy as Vice-Rector for Education. Dr. habil. Róbert Szuchy is Habilitated Associate Professor, the Deputy Head of the Department of Commercial Law and Financial Law at the Faculty of Law and Political Science and regular member of the Doctoral School of Law and Political Sciences.

He graduated at the Faculty of Law and Political Sciences of University of Miskolc in 2005. Between 2005-2006, he obtained an additional Master's degree in European Union Law at the Nancy 2 University, France. He obtained his doctorate (Ph.D.) from the Deák Ferenc School of Law and Political Science of University of Miskolc in 2010 and his habilitation from the School of Law and Political Science of the Károli Gáspár University of the Reformed Church in Hungary, Faculty of Law and Political Science in 2017. Between 2016 and 2022 he was the Vice-Dean for Education at the Faculty of Law.

His main research and teaching interests are commercial law, corporate law, energy law and corporate governance law. He is the supervisor of the legal and the LL.M. in Energy and Natural Resources study programmes.

In addition to his teaching activities at the Faculty of Law (KRE), he is a qualified lawyer and runs a law firm. President of the International Committee of the Hungarian Lawyers Association.

In 2021, he was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Order of Merit of Hungary in recognition of his research and teaching activities in the field of jurisprudence and his high-quality work as a lawyer.

 

The Senate supported the appointment of Prof. Dr. B. Péter Furkó as Vice-Rector for Science and Research. Prof. Dr. B. Péter Furkó is Professor, the Head of Department of English Linguistics and the Head of the Institute of English Studies at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences.

He completed his doctoral studies at the University of Debrecen in the field of linguistics. In 2019, he habilitated at Eötvös Loránd University. His research and teaching areas are pragmatics, textual linguistics, discourse markers, intercultural communication and linguistic variations.

He is the Head of Linguistics Workshop of the Benda Kálmán College of Excellence in Humanities and Social Sciences of Károli Gáspár University of the Reformed Church in Hungary and a member of the Unified Bible Research.  He is Chairman of the Scientific Students’ Associations Conference of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. He is also a member of the Pragmatics Working Group at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences and a research leader in the Discourse Markers across Genres and Languages.

 

All three vice-rectors were appointed for the period from 24 February 2022 to 31 January 2027.
