Doctoral School of History

Doctoral School of History

The Doctoral School of History has two programmes:

1. Society, politics and army in the Hungarian Kingdom 1740 – 1867
2. Social, political and military conflicts in Hungary 1867 – 1968

The aim of our Doctoral School is to provide professional training in the history of social, political and military issues of Hungarian history in the 18th and 19th centuries in an international context. Our program is intended for researchers and scholars who are aware of the theoretical issues of historiography and the different methods of in-depth research of written and audio-visual resources, and will also be able to conduct independent research at the end of their doctoral program. In order to facilitate the acquirement of this knowledge and to further develop students’ research skills, we have developed a general and a special historiography and resource analysis program.
In our education and research program, while analysing central themes, we place emphasis on explaining the interrelationships by means of causal relations through concrete historical, spatial, and social dimensions. This complex mode of investigation assumes interdisciplinary research methods. We strive for bringing the existing and newly accumulated knowledge into a systematic framework of history research.
