Our Erasmus Diaries series continues with a new story from one of Károli’s students. This time, Bálint Kovács, a second-year Dutch Studies student at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, takes us to Brussels, where he is spending the autumn semester of the 2026/27 academic year as an Erasmus+ student at Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB).
My name is Bálint Kovács, and I am a second-year student of Dutch Studies at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of Károli Gáspár University of the Reformed Church in Hungary.
I am spending the autumn semester of the 2026/27 academic year in Brussels, Belgium, as part of the Erasmus+ programme, studying at Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB).🎓
At my host university, I have mainly chosen Dutch-taught courses in linguistics and literary studies. It was particularly important to me that my Erasmus experience would not only be about travelling and discovering another country, but would also be closely connected to my academic studies back home.
As a Dutch Studies student, Belgium felt like a natural choice. I saw it as an especially exciting opportunity to use Dutch not only during my university classes but also in everyday life, while getting a closer look at Belgium’s multilingualism and cultural diversity.🌍
Over the next few months, I would like to give you a glimpse into what it is like to live in Brussels and study at VUB as an Erasmus student – from everyday university life and the Belgian education system to travelling and all the experiences that come with living abroad.✈️📚
