From Foggia to Nancy: An Erasmus+ Journey Across Europe

Norbert Joko, a third-year Business and Management student at the Faculty of Economics, Health Sciences and Social Sciences of Károli Gáspár University of the Reformed Church in Hungary, shares his experiences from two semesters abroad within the Erasmus+ programme on our university’s international Instagram page: first from Foggia, Italy, and then from Nancy, France.

He began his Erasmus journey in Southern Italy. According to him, Italy has always held special significance for him, so choosing Foggia was a deliberate and personal decision. The city and the experiences he gained there exceeded his expectations, and he considers this semester one of the best decisions of his life. During his studies abroad, he took courses in marketing, business English, and project management. He highlighted that the instructors were extremely helpful and empathetic, supporting students in every difficulty and also providing online learning materials for those unable to attend classes in person. Thanks to the international environment, he met students from many different continents, which enriched him not only professionally but also personally. In his experience, his English improved significantly, and he became more open and independent.

His everyday life was also shaped by the Erasmus Student Network (ESN Foggia) community, which supported integration through active programmes: karaoke nights, international dinners, excursions, and various themed events made the experience complete. In addition, he travelled to numerous Italian and Southern Italian cities, including Bari, Polignano a Mare, Alberobello, as well as Rome, Naples, and Pompeii. The natural and architectural beauty of the region left a deep impression on him. He describes the city of Foggia as “colorful and magical,” carrying the characteristic, at once chaotic and homely atmosphere of Southern Italian life.

He is currently spending his next Erasmus semester in Nancy, France, about which he will also share updates.
