International Relations

Our university is a young and dynamic institution with rapidly developing international relations. It is a strategic aim of Károli Gáspár University of the Reformed Church in Hungary to further deepen and widen its network of international cooperation.

Today, the university maintains bilateral contacts and cooperation agreements with close to 160 partner institutions in 37 countries in the World. Our partners are mostly European institutions, though we have an increasing number of partnerships with universities in Japan, Korea, Canada and the USA. Cooperation agreements cover student and teacher exchange schemes, joint research and publication, as well as organising and providing courses for students.

Within Europe, the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union plays a key role in the cross-border cooperation while the university is also a member of the regional CEEPUS mobility programme. It also joined the International Credit Mobility programme of the European Union, receiving exchange students from, and sending Károli students to, overseas universities.

Besides exchange programmes, our university offers an increasing number of degree programmes in foreign languages in order to attract international students who wish to obtain a diploma at Károli. Further information can be found about these programmes at the Study Programmes in Foreign Languages section of this website. Thanks to the Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship programme of Hungary, the first group of international students holding a Stipendium Hungaricum scholarship graduated at our university in July 2018. Ever since, the number of full-time international students studying for a degree has been steadily growing.

Károli Gáspár University pays special attention to the Hungarian communities living in the neighbouring countries and therefore it maintains a network of special cooperation schemes with higher education institutions in Romania, Serbia, Slovakia and Ukraine.

As a Christian university, we actively seek contact and cooperation with other Christian institutions of higher education. Károli Gáspár University is a member of the INCHE (International Network for Christian Higher Education) and an international affiliate of the CCCU (Council for Christian Colleges and Universities). With other like-minded universities and colleges we would like to uphold and spread Christian values in higher education.

In accordance with its Christian mission, the university founded the Károli Christian Scholarship in 2019 to support young Christians in Africa and the Middle East. Moreover, the university joined to the Scholarship for Christian Young People program to support these student’s university studies in Hungary.

Károli Gáspár University – together with over 900 universities from all over the World – is a signatory to the Magna Charta Universitatum that aims at jointly protecting the principles of academic freedom and institutional autonomy of higher education institutions.
