Darkness and Light - photo competition

Károli Gáspár University of the Reformed Church in Hungary, Faculty of Pedagogy Department of Arts, Physical Education and Lifestyle announced a photo competition called Darkness and Light.

“In the beginning, God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.”

The aim of the proposal is for our students to show their “creative” view of the given topics in the light of past experiences. Given topics are nature, memories of the past, sustainability and love of nature as an example.

We suggest working on the following topics related to the title:

  • spring, rebirth (nature photography)
  • artificial environment and the interaction of the times of the day: a series of photos of an outdoor object at different times of the day
  • values ​​of the past, our memories (photo of an object, portrait)
  • the possibility of selfie, the genre that conveys aesthetic value (self-portrait, portrait)

Full-time and correspondence students of the Faculty of Pedagogy are allowed to participate in the competition with a maximum of 10 photos related to 4 different topics.

Requirements for the application:

  • Photos are allowed to be taken with a digital or analogue device, but the submission must be in digital format
  • Size: min. 20 x 30 cm; 300 Dpi (2362 x 3543 px)
  • File type / extensions: RAW; TIFF; JPEG
  • Materials of the application and the completed application form must be attached to the given e-mail address
  • Please name the files as:
    • “monogram of the creator”-“number of the topic”.extension
    • For example: SzV-XY1X2Y-1.jpg or szv-xy1x2y-1.jpg (you are free to use accented characters and uppercase or lowercase letters)

Deadline of the application:

  • Sunday midnight, 22 May 2022.

From the received and selected works by the jury, an exhibition will be organized, and the most acknowledged work will be awarded. Announcement of the results and the award ceremony will be held at the opening of the Darkness and Light exhibition.
